Jazz jam

Jam sessions are great meeting places, and also give the opportunity to try out both tunes you are learning and tunes you've always wanted to play!

Here's an interesting fact - the innovative young players who were using after hours jam sessions back in the day to work out the details of be-bop had to do so in secret - union officials used to follow them around after their 'official' Big Band engagements, and fine them heavily if they were caught 'in flagrante delicto' at a jam!

We're not policing our jam sessions - but we are laying on an excellent Rhythm Section and a good supply of standard charts to help things run smoothly, so do come and join us when you can (singers and instrumentalists all welcome).

FAQ

Q Where do the sessions take place?

A The venue is the Shoefactory at Rushden, a beautiful Victorian building (with a grand piano in all three playing spaces), which is also the home of Jazz School UK founders Nick Weldon and Andra Sparks. More details, maps and links can be found on our About Us page.

Q What is the cost of the JAZZ JAM?

A The daily rate is £15; or if you want to drop in for any part of the day, the rate is £5 per session.

Q What do I need to bring?

A Pianists: nothing (grand piano in situ).
Drummers: we have a house kit, so just your favourite bits and pieces.
Bassists: instrument and (if preferred) own amp.
Guitarists: instrument, leads and amp.
Everyone else: instrument, music stands, and ideally concert parts x 4 + Bb + Eb parts for anything you particularly want to play or sing. We have a lot of music here as well!

Q How do I sign up?

A Just send a text or email to let us know you are planning to come.
