Hi there - Iíve booked on the 2018 Spring weekend in April. I play upright bass and have been playing for 6 years. Looking forward to playing with new people and meeting new faces. Where are people staying? I really need to get booked in somewhere - any experience of local accommodation?
Cheers

Hi everyone. just to introduce myself - I'm Jonathan and I'm booked for both days of the spring beginners weekend. I've played classical piano off and on for some years without any great success, but switched to Jazz a couple of years ago. This is much more fun! But I've no experience at all of playing in a group or of improvisation and am very much a beginner in Jazz (and frankly not much beyond otherwise) I'm a mix of excitement and terror at present but really looking forward to meeting up in April. Let's be honest, it's a beginners group so I don't think we should be too ashamed of being at the early stages of our stellar jazz careers!

Introductions / Introducing - Kevin

Hello Everyone,

Having played mediocre piano all my life I am now trying to improve.  I'm following the ABSRM jazz piano syllabus with my great teacher in Oakham, - the market town of Rutland. Not too far from the jazz school.  So what would be the best way for me to get involved?

Would love to play in a band and play professionally in semi-retirement.

Looking forward to discussing with everyone!

Kevin

 Hi folks
I have been a jazz lover since 1949, and listened to jazz all my life, umpteen records, tapes and memories, Louis at the Albert Hall , Ella in Manchester Bristol and elsewhere, Basie, Ellington, MJQ, Ronnie Scott, Tubby Hayes,  Dankworth, Laine, and many more, too many to mention.
At the age of 73 I decided to do something about it and bought an alto sax, converting to a Tenor at a later date.
I now suffer from C O P d and the lungs restrict the performance but I can manage a slow to medium paced tune                                  subject to breath.

I would love to join you guys for a break so will be looking to come up shortly, I live in Plymouth but my daughter lives in Tamworth so quite feasible

Cheers

Cedric

« Last post by DarkHorse on December 02, 2017, 11:30:14 AM »
Hello Folks. I was a brief attendee at Jazz School a year or two ago.
I'm in a  rock/ swing band in Cambridge along with Heather Jones who is a flautist at Jazz School. Our sax player's future is uncertain and we are looking for a dep/ replacement to to join us. Soloing is a must! Please give a listen on our FB page and get in touch if you think it's for you. We are starting to get a little following in the area and gig roughly twice a month give or take... Thanks, John

Did you enjoy the course Andrea? I'm thinking about enrolling into something similar over the holidays.
